Our first proposal for turists in Buenos Aires is a fashion tour in the town of San Telmo. We are talking about a walk around this magnific area, that mixes Argentinian history with the newest (and oldest) tendences in clothing for both women and men.
The tour begins in the Museum of Fashion History, located in Chile 832, where you will walk through its five rooms to encounter the style of life of a 1909 family, the crystals in the dresses worn in the 20's, clothes from Christian Dior's collection "New Look" used in the 50's, among other interesting items. It also shows a grafic evolution of the history of clothing since the arrival of the Spain crown to Rio de la Plata until the 1900, and a collection of clothes from the 60's.  There are over eight thousand valuable pieces from numerous creators and designers, showing both craftsmanship and applied manufacture industries. Most of came from public donations. The museum opens Tuesday, Wednesday, Thrusday, Friday and Sundays from 3 pm to 8 pm. The admission to the museum is free. For further information, the telephone number in Argentina is (54 11) 4343 - 8427. The buses that take you there are 2, 9, 10, 17, 45, 59, 70 and 103, and you can also take the subways C or E (Independencia Station).

The second stop in this tour is the town of San Telmo itself, , where different currents of fashion fill the windows of the differents shops. Elegant stores, hippie chic, vanguardist, clasic and exclusive offer a great variety of clothing (a minim amount of each design) for satisfy even the most excentrical shoppers. Moreover, in almost all of the stores, you can find more accesible prices than in the big malls and the typical shopping streets.
One of the main places to shop clothing and other accesories is the San Pedro Telmo Fair, located in the crossover between Humberto Primo Street and Defensa Street. In this place, you can find all kind of accesories and clothing, including fans, jewelry, canes, buttons, purses, tableclothes, perfumes, watches, antique clothing and hats, among accesories for the house and other ornaments. You can access the fair by bus (22, 24, 28A, 28B, 29, 33, 54, 61, 62, 74, 86, 93, 126, 130, 143, 152, 159) or walking from the museum. The only thing to consider is that the Fair only runs on Sundays from 10 am to 5pm.

Beggining in the Fair of San Pedro Telmo, you can walk throug Defensa Street, that is nowaday the center of the majority of the stores in the neighborhood. In this street, you can visit "Punto Sur" (Defensa 1135), that creates original clothing and accesories for women, men and children, "Adom Club", that sell accesories, and "El Mercadillo" that offers original fashion for babies.
In Defensa you can find unisex clothing, in "Casa Rey", that sell clothing, shoes and accesories for men and women. There are also several stores of independent designers such as "Pipí Cucú La Tiendita", "Diversa", "No Logo" and "Oxidia".
For men, the most important store is "Balthazar", that sells only clothing from demanding and elegant men. For women, you have stores from recognized designers, such as Vicky Otero, María Rojo y Pablo Ramírez.

We hope you enjoy the tour as much as we do, and that you have a good shopping spree!
